Binge Eating Disorder (BED) is the most common eating disorder in the United States, affecting people of all races, body sizes, and backgrounds. Yet it’s also one of the most underdiagnosed and undertreated, especially in communities of color. The United States estimates 3.5% of women struggle with BED.
Why BED is Most Common?
BED involves episodes of eating large quantities of food with a sense of loss of control, without the compensatory behaviors (like purging or over-exercising) seen in bulimia.
It often goes unrecognized or untreated, especially because many people living with BED are in larger bodies and face stigma instead of support.
BED affects people of all body sizes, genders, ages, and backgrounds.
Research shows that Black and Hispanic individuals experience equal or higher rates of binge eating compared to white individuals.
You deserve support, compassion, and treatment that understands the whole person.
